I’ve been struggling the past few days with some strange and fearful thoughts about life and faith. I recognize the enemy at work and so I’ve been reading God’s Word and finding strength in worship and prayer. Each day, God has been “showing up” in my life responding to my need and helping me. I’m very grateful!
This week I heard a minister speaking who kept hitting the nail about keeping Jesus as the primary point of reference in our lives and ministry. It truly resonated with me and led me to the realization that often we allow our life and circumstances to cause us to take our eyes off of Jesus.
- Peter was successfully walking on the water…until the wind and waves pulled his attention away from Jesus.
- Peter was hearing a commission from Jesus…until John walks behind him and Peter became fixated on what would happen to John.
I have have been likewise tempted to allow other things to distract my “fixation” on Jesus…who He is, what He means to me, how He cares for me. While there are many issues going on around me, they all are resolved in the knowledge of Jesus and His power at work through me. If I’m not careful, I can begin to operate with the mentality that all of this depends on me and what I do–it is not true!
It all depends on Jesus!
I want my life to be “hidden” in Christ. Paul’s announcement is my heart’s desire…
I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. (Galatians 2:20)
What about you?
