TV Pastors

H.B. London on his blog, “The Heart of a Pastor” posted an article titled “By Any Means.” He presented several very significant questions about the self-proclaimed “TV Pastors” that are on the Christian cable channels 24/7.

Mr. London tried to imagine himself as a layperson watching these programs and wondered about the thoughts going through such a person’s minds:

  • What did they think of the evangelist who minimized the importance of any style of worship other than his own?
  • What did they feel like when their potential for healing was tied to an offering they might “send in”?
  • How would the average small-church attendee deal with the extravagant “show biz” atmosphere so often displayed?
  • Is being poor or sick a “sin issue”?
  • And how would they reconcile the appearance of great wealth and opulence from these messengers, knowing the average pastor in America lives from one small paycheck to the next?

I believe that H.B. has pin-pointed some significant issues here. What do YOU think?

I applaud H.B. for his candor in questioning these things. But I am humbled by his wisdom in applying the words of Paul, “I have become all things to all men so that, by all possible means, I might save some” (1 Cor. 9:22) and praying, “Oh God, by whatever means, save some.”
